Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opponent’s hoop, which is elevated 10 feet above the ground. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end. Points are scored by making field goals, which can be worth two or three points depending on the player’s distance from the hoop, and by successfully converting free throws.

The sport involves various skills including dribbling, passing, shooting, and defensive maneuvers. The objective is to outscore the opposing team by strategically using teamwork and individual skills to gain possession of the ball and create scoring opportunities while also preventing the opposition from scoring.

Basketball is played at both amateur and professional levels, with leagues and tournaments occurring worldwide. The National Basketball Association (NBA) is one of the most prominent professional leagues, while international competitions are governed by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The game is known for its fast pace, athleticism, and emphasis on both physical and mental strategies.
